    Fabricants - the enslaved clones
Soap - food for the fabricants
Helterway - Perhaps something similar to a milky way
    Ninthnites - weekends
Dijied - to be sent electronically
    Genomed - genetically engineeered
    Sextet Recess - Christmas Holiday
E-wave - Similar to GPS, some kind of ‘internet’ connection
    Icenikes - snow boots
    Rigueur - Rigor/ in fashion/ trend

Purebloods are human beings just like ourselves. Fabricants are experimental clones of ‘purebloods’, and therefore, are considered inferior to the purebloods.

Sonmi declares that the definition of happiness depends on which perspective one takes. If happiness means the absence of knowledge, the fabricants are the happiest creatures in the world, however, if happiness means having a sole purpose or a goal to life, the fabricants live absolutely miserable lives. Sonmi rather feels that happiness is obtained through knowledge because knowledge determines the capacity of one, and by knowing more, one spreads its own perspectives. I agree with Sonmi. Some may say knowledge brings depression, and it may be true. A child’s life may be merry but that is only ignorance. By knowing the world, one ables oneself to have more choices to make, which gives them greater chances to obtain happiness.

Soap is food given to the fabricants. It is an addicting type of drug, which an overdose could cause a pureblood death. Soap is meant to keep the curiosity level of the fabricants low so that they will not try to acquire knowledge like Yoona and Sonmi.

Papa Songs are the corporations that own fabricants to use them in their smaller companies, such as restaurants. It feels as though the idea that big business equals evil is rooted in this book. This book certainly takes a negative take on the future.

Rather than a lesson on Biomathematics, it was a class to endure humiliation. I hid myself to the classroom, however, once I took off my garments, everyone was astounded by the appearance of a Sonmi, and fell silent. However, the silence did not last long and soon afterwards, they all started to insult me both verbally and physically.

Sonmi claims that losers are in a sense, winner as well, as long as they learn from the actual winners. I agree with Sonmi, because in the long term, what matters is not the number of times I won, but how much I have grown as a person, and learnt from my experiences.

If the differences between the purebloods and the fabricants are just measured by knowledge, then the social hierarchy is easily movable, by fabricants just like Sonmi.

Purebloods are not described as being tough. Though they stand at a higher social standpoint, they still bully Sonmi. This is very ironic, because there is not really a point in throwing paper planes at her, since she cannot do any harm to them. The people are afraid of Sonmi, because “fabricants are mirrors held up to purebloods’ consciences; what purebloods see reflected there sickens them” (222).

    10. The human race is a very powerful species. We seem to dominate the world with modern technology. However, although it might seem as though the world is controlled by us, this may not be true. There are so many discoveries being made each day, and when we are faced with that fact, we ‘fumble’ with the new knowledge because we disillusioned ourselves with the thought that we know everything.

  2. 1)fabricant- the clones
sonicshot- type of weapon like a gun
soap- the food that the fabricants eat
Sexet Eve- something similar to Christmas holiday
    downstrata- going down
    upstrata- going up
    dijied- to be transferred
    ondul- stove (?)
magleb- containing many colors, designs, etc (?)
octopoid –some weapon/machine with eight parts

2)Pureblood basically means humans. Since human has blood, the novel referred to that. For the fabricants, having blood means being a human.

3)One of the definitions of happiness mentioned in this novel is having no difficult situations. And the other definition is taking over an adversity, or the one’s will to power. These two are quite the opposite meanings, but I agree with both of the meanings. It is because if there isn’t any adversity, many people will be happy. But also if you take over an adversity, or have will toward your power, you become satisfied and happy about it.

4)Soap is the food that the fabricants eat. It contains amnesia that makes you forget about curiosity.

5)Papa Song is the restaurant where Sonmi and the other fabricants work.

6)The lecture, “biomathematics” was a lesson about humiliation. This is because she got teased by her classmate, about her appearance and her job at Papa Song. She got thrown a paper on her face, and she wasn’t able to concentrate in the class.

7)I am not sure but I think that Orison said that what is important is the knowledge. So if you have knowledge, you are the winner. And losers are people without knowledge, and don’t think about other things.

8)I think this is talking about there is no difference in knowledge unless you aren’t a human or a clone. What matters is the knowledge, and that is the start of the pyramid. (As in a basic of an social strata)

9)Purebloods are described as being tough because fabricants are the mirror of the good parts of a human being. But human have to see their bad aspects as well as their good aspects. This might be ironic because at first, fabricants might be seen as being tough because they are a clone, so they don’t know about their real selves.

10)This quote can apply to us, the human race because human race is limitless. There are millions and trillions of human around the world, which is endless. And we don’t know what is happening with all the human generations.

  3. 1. dogburgers- some type of food (possibly a burger)
medicube- a healing device or maybe a first aid kit
    airwhoosh- moment
    xecs- students
Soulring- a pass-like thing for humans which could make things work only for humans and not for fabricants
    sportsfords- sports cars (?)
yellow-up- a certain time of the day (probably at the end)
    destarrable- severely punishable (?)
    nikes- shoes
    dollar-udder- provider of money (?)

2 ) “Pureblood” is someone who is born naturally, not as a clone.

3 ) Sonmi gives two definitions of happiness on page 188. She says that happiness could be the lack of hardship and pain in one’s life or the conquering of those things and being able to gain a sense of worth. I believe I would like to think that I would agree to the second definition because I think a human needs to have a sense of purpose in order to live. However, nobody likes to face hardships. Some people even take their lives because they are unable to handle the situation.

4 ) Soap is a drug that is given to the fabricants. It seems to be the source of their food and have characteristics of making them indifferent to the world outside their own.

5 ) Papa Song seems to be like everything Sonmi works for. When she was in the diner, she was working for Papa Song. Even after she left the diner, she seems to be working under Papa Song. I think it may be an company that fabricants need to work under for twelve years to repay the Papa Song Investment.

6 ) Sonmi was supposed to have her first lecture on biomathematics, however she soon realizes that the class is actually a class of humiliation and she is subjected to the cruel remarks made by her fellow students and the cold attitude of her teacher towards her. Nobody accepted her for what she was and always made fun of her.

7 ) Sonmi says that if losers are able to learn from their reasons of learning and can improve, then they are the winners. In other words, if the losers conquer the hardships, they are the winners.

8 ) Many people judge the fabricants and “purebloods” by their money, the fact that they are/are not humans. In this case, the “purebloods” always are considered superior. However, if the judgements were based purely on knowledge, then the clones such as Sonmi, have about an equal chance as the “purebloods” of becoming superior.

9 ) I do not think “pure-bloods” have been described as tough in the story (up until now at least). This is ironic because they are the ones dominating the clones when really they do not seem to have much strength. Wing- 027 was probably the toughest guy in the story and he was a fabricant.

10 ) We humans are constantly trying to find answers to things. However, the world is filled with thousands and thousands of mysteries. Once we grab onto a truth, we find it leading onto another question. We are fumbling with the world, trying to grasp at some truth, however it is just too vast for us to understand everything in this universe.

  4. remo - remote
soap - food or drug (?)
    fabricant - clone
    xecs - student
    Sextet - Christmasish thing
    downstrata - down
sony - Machine with lot's of options
    icennikes - icenshoe
    upstrata - up
    breakthru - breakthrough

Pureblood is someone who did not born as a clone

Soap is a food for clones but also a drug to prevent clones to be curious

Sonmi 451 says it would depends on from which side of view. If there is something that controls them then it wouldn't be happy but if not then could be the happiest.

Leader or group that has been used clones in restaurant.

It did not really turn out to be good. As she walked in students started to insult her for being a clone. Even the professor was paused for awhile when Sonmi was in the sight. Humiliated.

You might think you lose every time against sony but you are the actual winner since you learned something and winner did not learn anything.

It sounded like the matter is knowledge what separates them. If it is not matter of genomic or money but knowledge it means clones and humans could be same(?)

I do not think they are described as tough ones in this book. As you could see, all they could do was gather up and blame on Sonmi for being fabriacnt. Though they are on the position of dominating, I do not see how human leads them but insult or blame them only.

Humans (also fabricants) are just meant to be curious and find out stuffs but it is just that there are limitless things to find out.

  5. Sexet eve- Christmas holiday
    icenikes- shoes?
fabricant- the clones, such as Sonmi and Yoona
soap- the food that the fabricants eat. Lessens their curiosity level.
E-wave- some kind of technological thing.
    downstrata- go down. down
    dijied- transfer, moved electronically
    upstrata- high up.
ninthnite- something to do with the days. Maybe week days?
    xec- people, student.

The purebloods are the humans like us. Humans created the fabricants and therefore they are considered the “superior” people because they have the pure blood of a human.

I guess the definition of happiness given on page 188 is viewed from two perspectives. The first side is the ones who have knowledge and the other is the ones that do not. What Sonmi is trying to say is that if knowledge, and having a sense of purpose was happiness, then they ( clones) were the ones who were not happy. If though happiness meant lacking the knowledge and not knowing about anything then it was the fabricants that were happy. I personally think that knowing is better. But still, I guess if I did not know any knowledge and did not know anything about the purpose of life, I would still be happy.. since I dont know anything about life. (I cant really explain it well!)But I really think that gaining knowledge and having a purpose and meaning in life is important.

Soap is the food that the fabricants eat and it is fed to them so that the fabricants curiosity is low. They dislike the idea of a clone being curious like Sonmi and therefore they fed Soap to them.

Papa song is the restaurant where the fabricants such as Sonmi and Yoona worked.

The first lesson for Biomathematics was actually a real lesson for humilation. As I walked into the room with a hood I was unnoiticed but soon as I took off my cloak everyone glared at me, due to my feature. People fell silent at first, but they started to say things about me and gave me physical and mental damages.

I guess what orison has to say about winners and loosers is that loosers that learn from the winner is sometimes also consider the winner. They get to learn more things and improve themselves and therefore they can be winners. I think I agree. Firstly because I learn from what others do and I get a sense of achievement in myself. And though I may not be a winner I myself have achieved something and learnt something and therefore I feel like I have winned.

If the difference between social strata was not from distinguishing mand and clone and was all about knowledge, the whole pyramid will keep on shifting as clones like Sonmi and Yoona appear.

I think that purebloods in the book is not described as being the tough ones. We can constantly view how they treat Sonmi and we can also view how they fear to give them knowledge and curiosity by giving them soap. I think this is ironic since it is actually the pure bloods that created the clones and that actually the clones do not give harm to humans.

This quote is taken from the section when Sonmi looks out from the rooftop and looks at the vast sight of the world around her. I think this can apply to human race since it shows how strong we have become and how we humans dominate the world. Compared to the old days places have changed and everything is based on technology. I guess it is also referring to how we as human beings can never understand the human race since it is too vast. The world is too big to be able to understand everything that is happening.

  6. 1. Fabricants- the clones
    Boardman- professor
Soap- the spice/ food given to the fabricants
    Sexet Eve- holiday
sony- the computer?/machine which helps Sonmi to study
    upstrata- going up
    Icenikes- snow shoes
    dijied- transferred
    xec- college people/students
    pureblood- normally born/ human
    2. “pureblood” is the non-clone people so they are the humans.
    3. Sonmi describes the definition of happiness depending on what you are looking for. If you were only seeking for peace and rest the term happiness is juxtaposed to those who think of happiness as a search of adversity.
    4. Soap is the food given to the clones containing amnesia which make the clones less curious.
    5. Papa Song is the company owning the fabricants to use them in labors such as restaurants.
    6. Her first lecture in biomathetics is said that it was only a class of humiliation since Sonmi was teased by other “purebloods” students with intolerant remarks about her existance.
    7. Sonmi mentions that being a looser or winner depends if you are able to gain knowledge from the adversary which I agree. However, by only looking at the result of the game, the looser and the winner cannot be changed. It might only be an excuse for loosing.
    8. “Social strata” is discussed being based on knowledge and not if you are either pureblood or a clone. The pyramid is starting decline with the apparition of fabricants seeking for knowledge like Sonmi and Yoona.
    9. The purebloods are not described as being tough. Despite their social status being higher than the fabricants, they look down on the fabricants and bully them as they did to Sonmi. This is probably because they are in a way scared of the clones since some of them can be actually smarter than themselves.
    10. This quote can be applied to human race in a way that human’s curiosity never ends and all are seeking for better all the time. Facts that already exist can be completely changed from one day to another because there are so many new things and discoveries every day of our lives.
